Irene Eguinoa brings over 20 years of experience in research and innovation, spanning the entire lifecycle from foundational academic research to the management of industrial innovation. Throughout her career, she has contributed across diverse, cutting-edge sectors, including renewable energy, cybersecurity and space. Irene leverages this comprehensive expertise to drive collaborative innovation ecosystems, notably contributing to the formulation of European strategic roadmaps, cooperative research actions and the orchestration of public-private partnerships. She holds a European Doctorate in Control and Instrumentation Systems, and a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering.
Role at CENER
For over a decade, Irene Eguinoa has served as a Senior Researcher in Control Engineering at CENER in customer-oriented and publicly funded research and innovation projects at regional, national and international levels. Specialised in the design, analysis and validation of advanced control technologies, she applies her expertise to the operation and assessment of both onshore and offshore wind turbines and wind farms. Her recent work within European research projects includes TWAIN, AIRE, FarmConners or CL-Windcon, where she acted as Project Manager. Furthermore, Irene contributes to strategic roadmaps and research collaborations within the wind energy sector, holding leadership roles such as Vice-Coordinator of the Wind Energy System Integration Sub-Programme at EERA JP Wind Management Board, and work package co-leader for IEA Wind Task 44 in wind farm control.
Role at TWAIN
Within TWAIN project, Irene serves as Scientific Co-Coordinator and leader of Work Package 4, which focuses on the integration of controllers and scenarios for decision support. The objective of WP4 is to advance wind farm control and layout co-design optimisation and to provide assessment support for better informed decisions in wind farm operation. The user-centric integration of TWAIN toolboxes is jointly led by TU Delft and CENER, with the collaboration of other consortium partners as tool developers. The decision-support framework will be tested on industrially critical case studies, providing a series of optimal, value-based wind farm operation solutions to guide human decision makers. Finally, those solutions will be validated through high-fidelity simulations and field testing at Risø Hybrid Power Plant, led by DTU.
